Co-Locate in the NASDAQ OMX Data Center
NASDAQ OMX offers all customers the opportunity to co-locate (CoLo) their trading systems within our highly-reliable data centers. Placing servers and telecommunications equipment in our recently expanded space significantly reduces message latencies, providing you with better access to the liquidity and speed of the NASDAQ OMX trading platforms. CoLo is available for all of our U.S. markets including:
- The NASDAQ Stock Market
- NASDAQ OMX BX
- The NASDAQ Options Market
- NASDAQ OMX PHLX
- The NASDAQ OMX Futures Exchange
Benefits and Features
- Significantly lower message latency rates.
- Reduce networking complexity by configuring one switch port for access to multiple markets.
- Lower telecommunications costs by obtaining shared telecommunications access to equipment.
- Access multiple asset classes from one facility
- Establish local area network (LAN) connections to access NASDAQ OMX services.
- Decrease wide area network (WAN) telecommunications costs.
- Stay technologically competitive.
- Take advantage of "Remote Hands" support: onsite team service from rebooting to installing and cabling an entire cabinet.
Proven Lower Latency
NASDAQ OMX CoLo offers subscribers the potential for significant reductions in message latencies. This can translate into faster order-entry, sub-millisecond book data and ultimately, substantially reduced decision processing times.
| Location | WAN Latency | CoLo Latency | CoLo Savings |
|---|---|---|---|
| NY Metro | ~2-5 milliseconds | ~0.4 milliseconds | ~up to 4.6 milliseconds |
| Chicago | ~30 milliseconds | ~0.4 milliseconds | ~29.6 milliseconds |
Significant Infrastructure Cost Savings
Cost-saving benefits for using one data center for CoLo include reducing:
- Equipment costs with the ability to use the same equipment/cabinet to access multiple markets.
- Networking complexity by configuring one switch port for access to markets.
- Telecommunication costs by obtaining shared telecommunication access to equipment.
In addition, NASDAQ OMX CoLo subscribers have the potential to receive significant cost savings on their WAN connectivity. By building solutions that do not require market data to be sent over their WAN link, subscribers can drop their bandwidth commitments and use a T1 connection or less for system administration purposes. This should result in significant savings for typical subscribers in the Chicago and New York Metro Areas:
WAN Connectivity Costs vs. CoLo Costs (Monthly)
| (100MB EPL versus T1)* Location | Non-CoLo | WAN CoLo | CoLo Savings |
|---|---|---|---|
| NY Metro | $2,500 | $150 | $2,350 |
| Chicago | $5,000 | $750 | $4,250 |
* These costs reflect a representative cost for typical WAN connectivity from the CoLo area to NASDAQ OMX.
State-of-the-Art Facilities
NASDAQ OMX CoLo subscribers will be located within a highly secure data center that provides redundant power with generator backup, cooling and fire detection/suppression. In addition, a number of telecommunications carriers are available, providing subscribers with an opportunity to establish diverse connectivity at competitive prices. For the standard service, monthly fees include:
